clarification

You said:
Did the 'configure' and 'make' go ok? Sounds like its running the .so files I compiled on Knoppix which wouldn't be compatible with Ubuntu.

--
My response:
How do i keep it from running the .so files if I try to use a different ilnux than knoppix?

DSL (the itty bitty linux program)

According to the instructions you posted, swlpc is opened by unpacking it, going to the directory where it's at, and typing configure then make. well i got as far as going to the folder, and a bash window opened. it didn't recognize "configure" or "make" for that matter.
i'm presuming this has something to do with the fact it's an itty bitty linux program. but in the event that's not the problem, do you have any further pointers? i have it unzipped on my damn small linux and it's not doing that configure thing.

Skinning

What i'm trying to do is use the basic format you've created with the
various 3d items, commands
and scripts, and just modify those to fit my mmorpg idea. many of your
ideas are really good and i'd
like to keep. i was really impressed with the features relating to the gui
and interfaces. i'd want to
create my own graphical guis/interfaces, but keep the scripts and functions
you've attached.
. in addition, you've done all the work already! if i can just reskin it by
using the wizard and
the various tools, i could have my own working mmorpg extremely fast.
if i download a different mud program like circle or smaug, it'll be like
back to square 1?

Shattered world

okay, swlpc doesn't work on windows, does it? they said if anyone could it
to work on windows, they'd give them an award. lol

i went specifically to the wizard in the 3d client folder. which doesn't do
anything except load the server and show me a black screen with the normal
game text on it.. when i follow the instructions on your website under
wizard client, and type in vi3d child.lpc it asks me "What?" is that an
indicator that its ready to be modified? On the wizard client page on your
site, it shows a white background edit box, mine is black. i can't see
anything in it and it doesn't pop up after i input vi3d child.lpc. instead i
have to use the files menu.

I also tried going to godmode. when i try by pressing ctrl g and control m
or ctrl G and ctrl m, nothign happens. i've tried holding the ctrl key the
whole time and only holding the ctrl key when pressing the letter key.
maybe i'm expecting too much, like more than "What?" or more than the normal
screen such as an interface or something. are you sure windows users can
even edit this game? 3d tags are swlpc, as well. how am i going to get it
to allow me to edit if it doesn't work on windows?

thanks for your help
Beth

shatterworld

Thanks for offering your 3d mud software. It's been fun tinkering
with it. I was surprised how many features it has.
I was wondering if you could help me on a few items, regarding
modifying the 3d generic mud. For example, I can't seem to get
the wizard to work properly. I'd like to change the name of the
mud, the one that's shown when you first boot up the software
and are on the login screen,
but from what I can tell, that's only modifiable via the Wizard.
Is there another way? Maybe the wizard doesn't work correctly
with my computer (windows xp sp2, dx9, nvidia gefore 7.6, 1 gig
ram).
Is milkshape the only pipeline
or can any 3d modeller work? does it accept or can it be
upgraded to accept, normal maps? Any particular reason the
trees and flowers are 2d? I'd like to put things in the buildings,
like furniture, that kinda thing. How do I do that ?

Did you animate the characters yourself? Is there documentation
on upgrading and modifying muds that would work with yours?

Erm, that's all for now and thanks again!

Need some help

This looks like quite an interesting program. I am currently creating a game with Reality Factory but am considering to moving to this. Before I invest my time into this though, I have a few questions.

How hard would it be to create a decent game with this? (scripting?/coding?)

Would I need to use Milkshape to create actors? (I am more comfortable with another 3D modeler)

This allows me to create multiplayer games right? If so, how strong of a computer would be required to run a decent server?

Can I create singles player games?
