Getting Started

The following is recommended steps for getting started with the mud client package. Firstly download the package and install it. Once installed by default it will run Shattered World and let you play Shattered World on the live SWLPC mud server.

The next thing would be to set up a Linux server (eg with Knoppix) and get SWLPC running on it. Or you can try some of the other muds such as Circlemud or Smaugfuss that don't need Linux. Continuing with SWLPC the SWLPC document includes instructions on running a SWLPC mud.

Once SWLPC is running you can change the config file ie

c:\program files\mudclient\client\config.xsl

so that instead of the 'host' being 'skinhat.wolfpaw.net' change it to the IP address of you Linux server. Eg 192.168.0.3.

When you run the Shattered World it should now be running from you local Linux server instead of the live server.

You can then start editing some of the models to try out Quark and Milkshape. Load Quark and edit the Sanom map (town building), compile it and put the obsp map into this directory:

c:\program files\mudclient\client\models

When you rerun Shattered World you should see the change in Sanom.

With Milkshape you could modify the following low poly (low poly modelling) table:

c:\program files\mudclient\client\models\table\table.ms3d

and you should see then changes in the table when you rerun Shattered World. You could use Milkshape to edit some actors aswell.

Next you could try the mud mapper and create some new rooms and then upload them to your Linux server. You could add some doors to a Sanom room with Quark and then use the mud mapper to put the doors into the mud.
